Skies That Smile

from Wonderful Wednesday by MJ Hibbett

/

about

I've written several songs about how rubbish my hometown of Peterborough is and how daft the Fens are... but actually, every time I go on the train in that direction, as soon as I hit the great flat plains of the fens I feel at home. That's what this song's about.

lyrics

Slide past Stevenage
See the landscape flattening
Feel the fens draw in
Skies that smile for miles

Trees outline the land
Distant steeples beckoning
Dykes in lines like maps
Skies that smile for miles

You can keep the hills
Cliffs and valleys, not for me
Take me to a place
With skies that smile for miles
